Open since January 19, 2007, Tony Starlight’s Supperclub & Lounge serves great food - everything from calamari and salads to full-course steak, seafood and pasta dinners, not to mention award-winning burgers (the Hollywood Burger Battle Champion both 2007 & 2008). We serve an array of well-crafted cocktails, regional wines and microbrews on tap. But the entertainment is the centerpiece here. Tuesday through Sunday something wonderful takes our stage. Entertainment including elegant vocalists, prohibition-era hot jazz, tribute shows, swing bands, Sinatra, Dino, Neil Diamond, Bacharach and even an 18-piece big band! Several times a month it's Tony's own show, which is a throwback to a real live Vegas-style musical comedy show, with impressions and costume changes. There is nothing else like it.
With a grand piano, roving spotlight and vintage photos, Tony Starlight's is an elegant, old-fashioned dinner club like New York City in the ‘20s & ‘30s or Hollywood in the ‘40s & ‘50s, and that’s no accident. Brett and Sherry Kucera (aka Mr. & Mrs. Starlight) opened their club with the vision of creating a place where Portlanders can step back in time when they walk through the front door, into a world where the performers are masters of their craft and respect their audience. Where the audience is embraced by both the performers and the staff in an atmosphere that’s elegant, yet hearty and alive with the sounds of great music and laughter.
"We wanted to create a place where different kinds of people could come and connect with one another, around music and performance, without a TV or video poker to distract them. The greatest things in life are the personal relationships we forge and with cell phones, email and Facebook we sometimes think we're connecting with each other but it cannot replace face-to-face contact."
Having scoured Portland for the perfect location, Tony settled on the 37th & NE Sandy location as the perfect spot. "I felt really lucky to get in the resurging Hollywood District. I can walk to my dry cleaner and my bank, and have real relationships with them. There are so many great things about the area; it's like a small town in the middle of the city."
Tony has 30 parking spots at the Banfield Motel, a stone’s throw from his door, so "there's nowhere to park" is "no kind of excuse."
With an ever-revolving list of performers, Tony Starlight's Supperclub & Lounge is a place you will return to often. Cover charges range from $5 to $15 depending on the night and performer, with some special-event acts charging more. All show times and prices are listed a month or more ahead here on the web site.
