May Mayhem! A May 2014 Overview
Hey gang! This will be another amazing month of entertainment at Tony Starlight’s. To find out full details on any of these events, just click on it!
On May 1st, eight contestants will sing with the All-Star Horns and one will win their own show at Tony Starlight’s. This weekend, two of our most popular shows, The Neil Diamond Tribute on the 2nd and The Tony Starlight Show on the 3rd, hit the stage. On Sunday the 4th, we are open from 3 to 6 pm for a special event, to raise funds for Lung Cancer Research. My good friend and bandmate Tom Miller passed away from radon related lung cancer in 2006 and our very own Darcy White is a 5 year survivor. Come celebrate with us and raise some money for a great cause!
May 6 I’ll be a guest vocalist in The Mont Chris Hubbard Bonus Show along with his main guest trombonist Bryant Byers. Not only will we be rockin’ a seven piece band, we’ll be hearing Bryant amazing stories about the legends of the entertainment business that he grew up in. This will be a special show indeed! May 7 our old friend Craig Bidondo hosts piano bar. On the 8th Cabaret Chanteuse brings us a special Mother’s Day theme, along with four great guest vocalists! The 9th it’s another Prohibition Party hosted by the Shanghai Woolies followed by our old favorites The Midnight Serenaders.
Happy Burt-day to Burt Bacharach, who will celebrate 86 years this May. We’ll celebrate with a special show and party on the 14th, The Essence of Bacharach. On May 15th The Libertine Belles make their debut, while we welcome back SoulCity on Friday the 16th. HELP!, a Beatle Tribute Band from San Diego takes the stage on May 17th to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Beatles appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, where they changed the face of music forever!
Piano bar with Bo Ayars get the week rolling on the 20th. Ayars Vocal Showcase returns on May 21st singing songs of the ’60s. Starlight Standard Time, our live music and talk show welcomes Marti Mendenhall and we’ll be highlighting Ella Fitzgerald. My favorite entertainer, Tony Starlight, performs twice this weekend with two completely different shows. Friday the 23rd it’s the music and comedy variety show and on Saturday the 24th, he teams up with John Gilmore to salute the great gentlemen of song (incidently, John Gilmore IS one of those great gentlemen of song!)
Part two of the Ayars Vocal Showcase kicks off the week on Wednesday the 28th. Mike Winkle hosts an emerging artists showcase on the 29th. it will be good to have him back on our stage. Perennial favorites The Bureau of Standards Big Band will swing their way back into our hearts on the 30th and Tony Starlight Salutes the Rat Pack with the All-Star Horns to close out another great month on the 31st.
Special Event at the brand new Meteor Lounge in West Linn!
We’ll be soft rockin’ the lid slightly ajar on this sucker! That’s right, the smooth sounds of the seventies come to West Linn in their new state of the art venue, the Meteor Lounge. This place has an amazing stage that I can’t wait to play.
This show is the beginning of a new partnership with a really great new venue out in West Linn. It’s a place called the Meteor Lounge and it is the performance stage associated with the Youth Music Project.
The Youth Music Project is a non-profit music school with a mission of providing outstanding rock, pop, and country music education for youth by offering free or low cost lessons, free instrument use, and exceptional performance opportunities. It is a state of the art facility and I wish I had something like this when I was a kid.
The Meteor Lounge is the YMP’s performance stage and it is quite nice. We will be having many of the students join us on stage with our AM Gold 70s band. This is a great opportunity for these kids to get some stage time in a professional environment and a great chance for all of us in the band to mentor some up-and-comers and hopefully get them to carry our gear!
